Misleading pricing, they advertise their core plan at around $299 a month. Which is what we signed up for for our trial. We found out that most of their features were not practical, but we found just hardly enough to justify even that price for at least a limited time. However once the trial ends, they lock you out of some of the most important data and force you to add basic features as add-ons until your price supersedes over $1,000 a month. And by ad-ons, I mean bin locations, and lot numbers, both of which require 2 separate add ons. Now we're unable to download this information and the only support you have is an AI chat-bot that seems to not even understand which MRP it's even on. Most to every other MRP here is significantly cheaper and provides the same features. We were just shopping around and were deciding on Katana. Not anymore. I can just have someone build our own app, or just use google sheets... Both of which are far more reasonable to use despite the slight inconvenience.

Our Experience with Katana MRP – Why We Left After 6 Years We were early adopters of Katana MRP, using it as our primary manufacturing resource planning system for over six years. In the beginning, Katana delivered exactly what we needed - solid functionality, reasonable pricing, and an easy-to-use interface that worked well for a small manufacturer like us with modest sales order volume. Initially, the pricing was fair and manageable. But once Katana began taking on outside investment and aggressively scaling, things started to change. Over time, they revamped their pricing model multiple times. At first it was tied to relatively simple metrics like number of users, but later it shifted to limits based on sales order line items, then to sales orders and gross merchandise value (GMV). What sounded sophisticated in their marketing quickly became a huge headache for us: as a small shop selling mostly items around $10 each, our high order count, not our actual revenue, automatically bumped us into higher pricing tiers. So we ended up paying almost the same as companies doing $50 million+ in annual sales, despite using a fraction of the features and resources. We’ve also experienced price changes mid-subscription period without meaningful notice, and being forced into annual negotiations simply to keep our plan. Year after year, it became clear that the company didn’t care about smaller customers anymore: their strategy seems squarely aimed at upmarket customers with big order volume and deep pockets - which pits small manufacturers like us at a disadvantage. Frankly, the model feels punitive, not proportional. If your business sells a lot of small-ticket orders, you get punished with pricing far beyond the value you actually consume - and that’s simply not sustainable for a real small manufacturer. In the end, after dealing with repeated increasing costs and painfully going around in circles with account reps who didn't take the time to understand our business, we pulled the plug and took the time and effort to migrate to a different MRP that met all our requirements. It is faster, easier to use, and roughly ¼ of the cost of Katana’s current pricing. That switch has been night and day for our team - not only financially but also operationally. On the plus side, Katana made it easy for us to export our data and we performed the data migration and cut-over to the new system entirely in-house. Bottom line: Katana may still work for some companies, especially larger, growing SMBs with high-priced items and few orders, but for small manufacturers with many sales orders and modest item prices, their current pricing strategy simply doesn’t make sense anymore.

The integration is very simple and easy to set up! I wish we could carry tags from Shopify to Katana as well as delay the synch, so it is not automatic. However, we were able to find work around and the app works great overall.

My experience using Katana for the last month has been incredible. The way it is set up makes it easy to understand and learn quickly. If you have a small-mid sized product based business, this will probably be a great ERP solution for you. Also, my onboarding coach Eugene was great at walking me through my many questions, and different scenarios that Katana could work for our company. Ask for him if you decide to get Katana, you won't be disappointed.

We've been using Katana for a couple months, and it has made tracking inventory much easier. There is room for improvement, especially to the interface with Quickbooks, but overall we're satisfied with the product and continuing to become more proficient. Customer service has been great, particularly our onboarding coach, Brendan, who was a delight to work with. He's extremely knowledgeable about every facet of the product and explains things clearly. He was always responsive, patient, and ready with answers, often going beyond expectations. We cannot thank him enough.

Katana has been fantastic since we began using it 4 months ago. My sales rep worked with me to get pricing that matched our budget and use needs for our very seasonal business. My onboarding rep was always accessible. It was very easy to set up meetings with him and he was very responsive via email and personalized step-by-step videos for managing support in between. The platform is intuitive and saves automatically so it is easy to move from one task to the next. Favorite features include the forecasting, material tracing, and material planning. We had used Cin7 previously and that seems prehistoric in comparison to Katana's functionality. Strongly recommend Katana for both the platform itself as well as the support provided to ensure success.

Horrible. Foreign company! Overcharged us and agree they owe us 8K yet refuse to refund! Sudden and unexplained major increases in cost. Not robust. Glitchy. Other like softwares are far better and far less in cost with better CS! Not impressed. Worst CS and staff. We are reporting the theft and fraud to the authorities.

It took us several months to onboard Katana. The system is glitchy. When things dont work as expected, we are always told our issue "will be taken to the developers" or they are "working on that". There are all these manual work-arounds that, rather than decreasing our workload by leveraging AI, required us to do extra work just to have basic functions and accurate data. After a couple months of onboarding and a couple months using it, we are switching to a different platform that's more intuitive and allows more customization. I agree with the comments with the tripling price - we were initially told we could get all the services we needed at $99/mo, but by the time we finished onboarding, it was up to $400/mo. The platform we are using now is around that price and I wish we had gone with them from the get-go.

Nice features overall but a lot are behind expensive add-ons and pricing can change all of a sudden substantially. We got blindsided at the beginning of this year and are looking for other solutions. We started using Katana just over two years ago and have been happy with the software. There are some bugs and some features that can be improved but overall it has been a big help. We had the starter subscription at $99 with the Shop floor add-on at $199 per month. In February Katana ramped up the subscription fees and forced us into the higher subscription to be able to continue using the Shop floor add-on. We went from $349/month to now $598/month. If you want to mark the location of a pallet with a bin number that is now another $199/month on top the other cost. We have a lot of products invested a huge amount of time getting it setup so I really don't want to move. We are in the busy time of year so I don't have the time to invest in switching apps but I am definitely keeping my eye out for another options.

We were a customer for 2 years then they blindsided us with a 4x price increase to our yearly subscription in January. When I questioned them about this sudden increase, Katana told us it was to bring their pricing in line with other MRPs. It certainly wasn't because the platform got 4x better. It's not as feature rich as other MRPs at the same price point. And this little stunt allowed us to reevaluate our situation. We've since moved to another MRP -I refuse to support a business that doesn't respect its customers.

Katana is overpriced, glitchy, and lacking features. The price I originally signed up to was quickly tripled or quadrupled and I was unsubscribed to the plan I had signed up to - by katana. There are companies charging the same price as katana is now charging that have much more functionality for the same price. CIN7 and some others. You should be completely disgraced by unsubscribing your existing customers and forcing them on to your new plan at an exorbitant amount extra. 10 / 10 I would not recommend katana to an enemy.

I installed this app and in a matter of minutes the app changed and modified all my inventory in all the locations in my store with no sense, manual adjustments up and down in all the products for no reason, I had to correct the inventory manually after uninstalling the app.

Was great when starting, but now with the new price a $600 monthly price jump to keep the API access we had to jump ship and write our own system. Katana was simple and had great support, but it is not mature enough of a product to demand $1000 a month. Especially when you are not getting any new features with the price jump, the 30 requests per minute on the api was also very limiting when adding onto the platform. Shopify direct API has about a 1000 requests for the same time frame. I was hoping to keep my company on katana but we cant afford the new pricing models. Maybe they can add some more features to make it more of a seasoned product but its not ready yet.

A Disheartening Experience with Katana's Pricing Policies As a small business, Solid Stash, with an annual turnover of approximately 300kEUR and handling around 3000 orders monthly, we initially chose Katana for its affordability and features. However, our journey with Katana has been increasingly disheartening, marked by unexpected and steep price hikes that have put our business in a challenging position. Initially, we were content with a reasonable monthly fee of about 100 USD. This was manageable for a business of our scale. However, due to a change in Katana's billing rules related to sales order rows, we experienced our first major setback: an abrupt increase in our monthly fee to over 300 USD. This was a significant blow to our finances, but we reluctantly accepted it, hoping for cost stability in the future. We also anticipated the benefit of batch tracking, a feature crucial for our operations. Our disappointment was further compounded when Katana introduced a new pricing structure. Not only did we face another hike in our monthly fee, but batch tracking, previously included, was now a separate add-on costing an additional 199 USD per month. This escalation meant our expenses on Katana's services skyrocketed from around 100 USD to over 500 USD monthly – a fivefold increase in just two years. This pricing strategy feels like a trap. We initially invested in Katana, dedicating time and resources to set up and train our employees, only to find ourselves facing exorbitant fees that are unsustainable for a small business like ours. The lack of predictability in Katana's pricing is alarming. There's a constant fear that next year might bring another doubling of costs or a new, arbitrary billing metric. We feel cornered and exploited. The assumption that the high switching costs will force us to accept these unreasonable increases is unfair and disrespectful to loyal customers. We are not just numbers on a spreadsheet; we are a small business striving to survive and grow. We are making a sincere request to Katana: please reconsider your pricing strategy. We need stability and fairness in pricing. We made our initial investment based on the original pricing structure, and these drastic changes are not just a financial strain but also a breach of the trust we placed in Katana. In conclusion, while Katana's software may offer certain operational benefits, their pricing policies are a source of major concern and disappointment. We urge potential customers to consider this aspect carefully before committing to Katana. The financial unpredictability and lack of consideration for small businesses in their pricing strategy are significant drawbacks that cannot be overlooked. ------------- We are a startup and produce and deliver vegan freezer meals. We found that Shopify didn't have sufficient functionalities to manage our production and stock. Katana is the right fit for us, as it's very user friendly & intuitive. It helps us run our production as we've uploaded our recipes in the tool. Customer support is excellent.

I installed the app which didn't work for me, as it over complicated things. I uninstalled within the 14 day window and they still charged me $US129. It resulted in my shop being frozen for 2 days because the charge wasn't paid and I lost sales. Now I have to chase them to try to get my money back as I had to pay the charge to get my shop reopen. I really liked this software put they raised the price and my business can no longer afford it. They charge based on the number of line items you sell every month.. not how many orders you have per month. So, if you have les than 5 SKU this might work for you. Our top selling bundle has 7 line items. We have almost 25 SKU at any given time. This software is way over priced for small businesses with multiple SKU. Its very user friendly though. I'm so sad we can no longer use it.

Katana is the right blend of simplicity and automation for our organization and we think it can take us to 10x the revenue we have now. The implementation was straightforward and the integration to Shopify and Xero was the deciding factor. The variants we create in Shopify come directly to Katana for simplified setup. There are a few gaps that we have been able to work around, but with the regular cadence of releases, we are confident they will be filled.

We have multiple shopify stores (for language/currency reasons). Additionally, we have a third-party billing system for our wholesale. We need to keep our inventory in synch across all of them. Katana works out of the box for the shopify part, and using its API we are able to connect the wholesale part as well. Beyond that, we augmented Katana's reporting capabilities using one of the 3rd party apps they partner with to connect their data to a PowerBI front-end. The data model is straight forward, so developing the queries was intuitive. All in all, Katana is a great solution for inventory management and manufacturing process control as is, and flexible/extendible if you need to add more sophisticated use cases.

This app is a good introductory software for a business that is entering into the MRP/ERP system world for their company. It is priced fairly for less barrier of entry and the overall ease of use is pretty straight forward. The transactions and methods seem to work as expected. I wish the speed was a little bit better, but being that this is cloud based that is kind of to be expected. I still have some trouble syncing with my shopify store and looking to get this resolved with the tech support.

We have been trying out this software for more than a month time, support is great (Fred!), however, the software itself just doesn’t deliver what a ERP system is supposed to do! Inventory management is a mess, meaning the stocks can be unpredictably changed without reasons by itself! ALL 6 of our POS stocks got screwed up entirely and the warehouse, it’s been causing disaster time after time! The cost of goods also changes without reasons on its own! As an entrepreneur we have so much to take care of and now it’s giving me hundred times more troubles than before. We have invested months of human resources, time to invest in this software and ended up going back to square one + tons of troubles. I don’t know if it’s only me who is experiencing this but I’m not confident with the software unless major improvement and supports are put in this software by the headquarter.

Katana has been useful right out of the gate with their Shopify integration. It pulled in our products automatically and made it easy to create work orders from the sales we're getting. We're not fully utilizing the inventory management, but it helps with the major parts of our manufacturing process. We tried Fishbowl for a couple of years but it is difficult to implement and the support was terrible. I use this app to help me keep track of my stock flow. I have never used an MRP before but found this quite simple to use, especially with the help and guidance of the support team. there are a few functions that I would like that are not available yet, but I am assured they are in the pipeline for development. So far so good! I have run through up-tile MRP solutions, initially installing katana, and eventually came back to it. Its simplicity allow me to train others in to use it, and it functions well for stock management. I have a pretty extensive build procedure and it is able to track all my pieces and parts. You can bundle pieces together as well, then build a unit from multiple bundled parts.

Have been using Katana to keep track of our purchased materials, planning productions and keeping stock of our end products. Connects out-of-the box with Shopify and has a decent API to build custom connections with other systems/platforms. Had a good onboarding call with one of the team members. The roadmap looks promising as well. I like it stays very focused on the core of MRP/ERP and doesn't want to be yet another all-in-one tool.

Katana is a full featured MRP solution for SMB. Setup was fairly easy and intuitive. The shop floor app is very simple and once some time is taken to get your workflows set up, it's simple for operators to use. I wish there were more item types, or assembly/BOM levels.

We've been using Katana for a couple months now after switching from another MRP solution, and we're extremely happy with the transition. The user interface and work flow is intuitive and required essentially zero time to learn. Tracking batches/lots is efficient and has reduced labor substantially. Since we've started using Katana MPR, life became so much more easier. We've got rid of tons of bulky spreadsheets and ditched time consuming process of reconciliation. With Katana it all happens automatically and in real time. Recently there was useful update of integration with Shopify which syncs changes made in Shopify orders with Katana (wasn't available before), it really helps a lot with refunds and cancellations or any other changes made to Shopify orders. Looking forward to new features coming up soon. I know there should be automated Make Orders - that should be huge deal for us!

This app has a lot of great things about it and it syncs well with Shopify. We do want to be able to move to using this as our sole source of truth when it comes to managing orders etc, but unfortunately, the fact that we are unable to partially ship or partially pack or allocate part of an order is a little bit of a set back. Currently the only way to do this is to manually create a new sale order, which doesn't work for our business. Hence the 4 star rating. The good news is that the team are working on a partial fulfilment feature, which I cannot WAIT for as it would make everything so much easier. I'm looking forward to writing a 5 star review when this feature has been released.

The manufacturing planning part took care of most of the issues we had and the stock management part is missing a couple features in our case that would make it perfect, but they seem to be growing quickly and adding new features all the time, so hopefully it will be 5 out of 5 for the stock management part as well as the manufacturing resource planning. However, if you're using Shopify only and have a 1 or 2 additional sales channels - Katana is perfect as it is. We integrated several apps and had difficulty tracking our manufacturing and inventory in Shopify-- they did what they needed to do but didn't update the inventory accurately in Shopify. Katana helped track both the manufacturing side and inventory, and now we're able to track and plan what we need in stock for orders as well. (No more numerous spreadsheets!) Their customer service team is one of the best I've met-- they're quick to answer even during busy shopping seasons and they go above and beyond to guide you through Katana to get it to where you need it. We switched our MRP system over to Katana this year. With our quantity of materials and products, the migration project of our existing material / product / recipe data from our old system was significant but Katana's import functionality made it doable. The ease of use of Katana is great and it's simple interface allows all of our managers to easily get their jobs done. The real-time inventory integration with Shopify is the largest selling point of Katana and it has worked flawlessly. All of our Shopify locations are sync'ed properly with Katana locations and what we see for location stock quantity in Shopify always matches what Katana shows. I have talked with many of their developers and tech support and they have always been incredibly responsive and helpful. They have eagerly listened to my suggestions and wishlist items and with this being relatively young software, I really look forward to their future product development and new features. I have already taken care of a couple of our workflow pain points using their brand new Zapier integration and they just introduced their API. Now for the cons: There is no Etsy sales channel support. We have an old Etsy site that we continue to maintain and have had to develop (partially manual) workflows to deal with the lack of direct Etsy support in Katana. This software was clearly designed with a different manufacturing workflow than we use in our industry. Every recipe is defined on a "per each" basis so all of our batch recipes have to be manually converted and input into Katana. Katana needs the ability to allow batch recipe input with an expected yield. In turn, when a manufafacture is complete there is no way to input an actual yield versus the expected yield which results in needing to add manual stock adjustments for proper material removal during manufactures. For us, this is at least 50% of our manufactures and causes a lot of time consuming manual work. All in all, the Katana software and company are great and highly recommended!

Katana is an intuitive, easy to implement and easy to use app. The integration with Shopify is a huge benefit which allows me to have up to date inventories on my e-commerce site. I like the product recipe feature which allows me to precisely know my cost of goods sold and adapt the pricing of my products. I would like to have a landed costs feature to easily factor transportation costs or discounts granted by my suppliers in the standard unit price of my materials. I have to manually do that in Excel, but Katana customer support told me this feature is in early 2021 roadmap. Also, I'd like to have the option to add a picture of materials and finished goods in each product card, to easily recognize products. Katana makes my life easier and organized. Katana's customer support team is awesome, they're available, ready to help and they carefully listen to customer's needs especially around desired features. I'd definitely recommend this app.

It integrates well with our eCommerce and accounting platforms as well. Clean interface. Only qualm is with mapping raw materials to finished goods - there's some automation that needs to be worked out with this, but I believe they're working on an update to do just that.

Katana has come a long way. This review is as of Dec 2020, so some things may be out of date. Great MRP for small manufacturers. I find that Katana is nice at helping make sure that I keep track of inventory across multiple locations. I think that they are very close to nailing fair pricing options. It would be nice to have a way to add more than 3 warehouses to the basic plan. The support has been great even though it can take a little bit of time to get a hold of someone or hear back. I'd rather have it take 2 days with a great answer than sooner with a poor solution. They take suggestions like any software company should, I just wish they prioritized fixed costs for purchase orders. As of now, you cannot ass shipping costs, duties, insurance, etc to POs for inventory cost tracking.

Just completed the free 14 day trial of Katana and have now begun a paid subscription. It took a few days and a bit of frustration to manually add all our products, ingredients, recipes, and current pending wholesale orders from outside of shopify, but having the shopify integration helped a lot. We use three different wholesale platforms (Faire, tundra & Abound), none of which offer automated third party integrations, so we knew we’d have to manually input orders and Katana serves that purpose as our centralized dashboard to see what needs to go out, when, from which platform, if we have it in stock, when we can make it, etc. In two weeks, we’ve already seen an increase in production efficiency and decrease in wholesale turnaround times now that EVERYTHING is being tracked in one place. Highly recommend Katana if you’re a maker, it’s never too early to implement automated systems in your biz!

Katana handles the complexity of a small manufacturing business very well. It takes time to input all of the data (or course) - and there are several import features available. I found it easier to add data manually, since it gave be an opportunity to clean up cluttered SKU's and better organize the data to fit into the Katana system. Being able to have nested items and bundles is HUGE, as it allows good tracking of WIP (work in progress). This ability alone makes it a great platform. From the customer facing side, it's pretty basic, and for now - that's OK. I'd rather a start-up software company spend resources on a stable and strong platform, then have me be able to customize the font on the PO's. I'm sure that in time, the software will get flashy as we haver all come to expect - but honestly, I appreciate that they are focused on function and not fashion.

We were using the classic Excel sheet method to try and keep track of skews of our products before Katana. This is some the best MRP software out there. It has made having commonized products (with shared parts) so easy to track. Forget about QuickBooks inventory management or trying to do this in Excel. This is smart software and someone was thinking when they built it. One suggestion would be some sort of mobile application for quick references of what's in inventory. Doesn't need to have the full function of the desktop environment.

What I can say, though, is that every concern we have brought to them, they have implemented a fix in short order, already had the resolution in their development schedule, or have otherwise been very open and helpful. A+ on customer service. I look forward to finishing implementation. It looks like it's going to be a really fantastic solution for us. I gave them 4 stars because we are still waiting on a few of the new developments that are important for us, such as separated user roles. Currently, there is only one user type and there is no customization available for who has access to which portions of the app. There is no separation of duties.

I've been using katana for a few months now and so far I'm really liking it. It's great for managing order production. I use it to manage all my made to order orders. It has a lot of features I'm not currently using but I hope to use them in the future. They are also always updating the app which is great and working to make it better everyday. As our business has grown, it's been more and more difficult and time consuming to track raw material inventory. With the fast growth, it's hard to get a feel for when we need to place an order for something. Katana allows us to easily see exactly how much raw material we have on hand. We also rely on the app to track finished good inventory and to create our daily production schedule. I also love how it tells us our profit margins for each individual fragrance (we make candles!). It integrates well with our bundles and sample packs too!

Overall, I have enjoyed using Katana. It allows you to keep all your inventory and finished goods in one place, and keep track of what needs done and what is at a good stock level. My only complaint is that it is a little confusing to see true stock numbers, because you have to go to the stock page and sort through all the variables (made, making, sold but still on your shelf) to see what your true number is. It has simplified our inventory management, and I would recommend it to someone looking for some help in streamlining and tracking their supplies and goods.

Good app for basic inventory management. But if you need to also management production, tracking bill of material usage and component stock levels, then Katana is a GREAT app. A fraction of the cost of other systems and a much better UI for getting work done fast and moving on to something else more important. A bit simple at the moment, which is good and bad, but the team is evolving the app and service regularly making this an app worth investing your time and efforts. It is a 4 star now for a few of the elements it is missing and will be a 5+ star in the next few months as they get more features on line.

Katana is the best MRP software out there that integrates into shopify, not just because of how lightweight and simple it is, but the support is top notch and very fast. As we've grown our business, Katana has helped us avoid missed deadlines, allowed us to plan production effectively, and kept our staff as minimal as possible, as otherwise we would have had to hire multiple employees to keep us going. Katana has been instrumental in keeping us sane throughout our growth. We looked at probably over 10 MRP software solutions before going with Katana, and all the others almost need someone running them full time, but Katana was the easiest to import into, the easiest to set up, and it requires very little eyes on to maintain everything. Their support is awesome, they respond quickly and offer solutions to all of our questions, or start working on it immediately and give us updates as they develop the solution. They even suggested a workaround for one of our requirements and kept us informed of updates that would help our specific use of the software.

This app is prefect for my business. It helps tack all my inventory, from material to finished products. The integration with Shopify is seamless. As soon as I make a product in Katana it adds it to the inventory on my Shopify website. Only negative I could give is the price. $99 a month is pricey and had to justify if it was worth it. This is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.

I had been working for a short period with the app, but it has been great !! I have 750 different products with 3 finishings and different materials and it is very helpful to have all this information at hand and control product process, orders, materials purchases. What is amazing is to be able to have all my material and labour calculated per every order. When I was exploring the app they took all the time to walked me through the app and make it applicable to my business, it was very good to see them trying to understand my business and provide some input. Regarding support always answering in a very short time. In general, for anyone who is a manufacturer, this is an app is going to help a lot controlling the process, I highly recommend this app. It is worthy to explore it if you have doubts.

So far I am thoroughly impressed with this app. I run a mostly made-to-order artisan/handmade product business and have spent the last several months looking and trying various inventory management/ERP systems in order to get us away from spreadsheets. This app cleanly does what no other previous (and pricey) systems have been been able to do as intuitively - allows me to track raw materials, our entire production process step by step, and easily see which orders are ready to be shipped if their made-to-order components are already completed or in stock from previous batches, or if the order still in the production process. Working within the app is lightning fast and is a very user friendly experience. Great resources, video tutorials and knowledge base to assist in the set up process.
