Rules
Two things decide where an app sits: its review data, and what it paid. Nothing else, and you can always tell which one you are looking at.
How the order works
Apps that have paid sit at the top, ordered by the total they have paid. Everything else follows in data order – review volume weighted by rating, so a 4.9 with 4,000 reviews beats a 5.0 with three.
Every paid row is labelled Sponsored on the catalogue, and the exact amount behind it is public on the board. There is no third, secret input.
Bidding
Whole US dollars. $5 minimum to join the board, $1 minimum raise.
Amounts stack. Pay again on the same app and it adds to that app’s total – you are not re-buying the spot, you are topping it up.
Paying less than the top still places you, at whatever position that amount earns. Equal amounts keep their order: whoever paid first stays higher.
Nothing renews and nothing is charged automatically. A completed payment is what moves a listing.
What can be listed
Apps on the Shopify App Store, and the websites of the companies that make them. Paste the App Store link and we match it to the catalogue.
Not accepted: chat and invite links, adult content, link shorteners, and affiliate or referral URLs. Tracking parameters are stripped before a listing goes live.
Our own apps
EcomApps is operated by TouchPoints Inc., which also makes apps for Shopify merchants. Those apps appear in the catalogue like any other, marked From the operator, and they are barred from the paid ranking – we do not sponsor our own apps, and the checkout refuses the payment if we try.
They hold whatever position their review data earns them, and they drop below any competitor who sponsors. That is the trade we accept for running the board in public.
What a sponsored placement is not
It is not a backlink. Every outbound link on this site is nofollow sponsored, on purpose. If someone sells you a paid ranking as SEO, read Google’s link spam policy first.
It is not a review, an endorsement, or a quality signal. It is a labelled placement in front of the people reading this catalogue, and we publish the click count on every sponsored row so you can judge it yourself.
Corrections
Categories are assigned from public App Store data and are sometimes wrong. Wrong category, wrong description, or you want your app removed – write to us and we fix it, paid or not.
