How this is counted, so you can check it. VISITORS counts each person once, on the same definition the dashboard below uses: crawlers dropped, our own addresses excluded, and a person recognised by a salted hash of their address and browser rather than a cookie – so two pages by the same reader are one visitor and two page views. “Reading now” is live: every open tab checks in every 20 seconds and stays counted for 60 seconds after its last check-in, so the number moves as people arrive and leave. The dashboard’s own realtime figure is a ten-minute window, so expect it to read higher. The two are measured independently, so expect them to sit close rather than land on the same digit – our beacon still records the readers whose ad blocker eats theirs.
