We canceled this subscription 19 months ago and a representative Francis confirmed in writing that it was done. They even admitted in an email that one month had been charged by mistake and guaranteed the cancellation would go through. It never did. They kept charging us $299 every single month for 19 months — $5,681 total — and we only caught it when we checked the app. Now they owe us that money back. Check your statements if you ever tried to cancel with this company.

Credit where credit is due. I had previously given this app a negative review. Since then the team at Tolstoy have worked diligently with me above and beyond to make improvements to a point where my facial expression went from a dark scowl to a ear to ear grin! In this short time since the team have contacted me, the outcomes have been great. Sure, it is not instant and there's learning of both a human nature and AI nature to consider but the outcome is well worth it already saving us much time and effort. No more photo shots on location and all the variables and costs that go along with it in this fast paced time poor world we now live in. We are now at a point we are enthusiastic about really deep diving inot what we can do with it. Also, the fact we are dealing with a business that cares and strives for improvement with outstanding customer service means a lot. I am a convert.

Tolstoy used to be a really simple, easy-to-use tool, which is exactly why I liked it. Since the platform shifted heavily toward AI-generated layouts and conversational interfaces, it’s become much harder to get a clean, polished widget that matches my website. Basic styling and layout changes now take more time than they used to, and the AI often seems to get in the way rather than help. It’s definitely become more powerful, but for anyone who just wants simple shoppable video widgets with straightforward design control, the experience has gotten noticeably worse.

Unclear billing and repeated upgrade pressure. I was being charged overages based on “billable impressions,” but the numbers do not match my Shopify and Google Analytics data. Remarkably, Tolstoy’s own team has given me different explanations of what counts as a billable impression: scrolled/seen, unique impressions, and page-load impressions. When I raised concerns about this, I was repeatedly pushed toward upgrading instead of the explanation of what I am being billed for. A promised refund --for one billing period-- took weeks of follow-up. I have now asked them to review my full account history because of their own inconsistencies around “billable impressions.” Use caution with Tolstoy’s overage billing.

Tolstoy has worked great with some of our products, but with others, we had trouble creating accurate lifestyle images. However, Tolstoy has been great in helping to resolve this. Video calls to go through the prompts with in-depth analysis and changes for us. They even rolled out an update to specifically fix some of the issues that we faced. I would recommend to anyone who is having issues with anything to book a call with them so that they can show you how to really use the app. Once you understand how the AI works and learns from you, then you can really make some amazing content!

We’ve had a very positive experience with Tolstoy’s Customer Success Manager, Emmanuel, and the technical team. They are highly responsive and quick to act. While we encountered some setup issues initially, any bugs were resolved promptly, with clear recaps and updates provided throughout. Communication was always polite and easy to follow. Emmanuel has been especially supportive, patiently guiding us through the platform step by step. Even without being very familiar with Shopify or the platform at the start, we felt well supported and confident using it. The AI studio also performs very well, producing more stable outputs than other AI tools we’ve tried and saving us time in post-production. Overall, Tolstoy is a platform we’d recommend.

We’ve used it for over a year and it definitely adds value. We did face a difficult experience with charges that added up to thousands of dollars over many months, mainly due to our own lack of attention. The app does send monthly usage emails, but we overlooked them. Thankfully, once we reached out, the team — including the CEO — listened and worked with us to find a fair solution. That level of support gave us confidence to continue with them. The concept is strong, the team truly cares, and the app delivers real value. Just be mindful to keep an eye on usage so you don’t get caught off guard. The integrations with Instagram, Google Drive and TikTok are a great tool of this app.

Great feature-rich app, and I really appreciate the support team. They’re incredibly patient and helpful. There’s just a small issue for those in the JST time zone, but they really went above and beyond to assist. If I had one suggestion, it would be about the chat notification system. Thinking about Tolstoy? DO IT!! It's an amazing app. The support team are very responsive and an absolute joy to deal with as well. One way the app has assisted our business is that we were able to embed a video on certain product pages that communicated a specific supply chain issue that we had with certain imported products. This meant that the video was uploaded once, and answered any questions our customers may have had in relation to that specific group of products. The result? An enormous amount of time was saved having to communicate with each individual customer inquiry. This is a must-have in any eCommerce store... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

You pay based on impressions rather than video views. Allows the app to charge you just for people viewing your product pages. So now you have to worry about CPMs on Ad Platforms AND CPMs on your product page. We loved the capabilities of the app, and we tried it for one client, but the widget is so bad that after showing the Tolstoy video it is NOT PLAYING and STUCK all the time, we have the paid plan for 4 months or so and till now the support is contacting the developers team it fix it ..... and we open support ticket 24 hours back and till now it is not working and the store will go live today .... so we have to stop the launch and we asked for refund (4 months) although we worked so hard on the interactive videos in the Tolstoy Automation and video flows. I believe it is not compatible with the new Shopify 2.0 or something.

I started using Tolstoy beta version since 2020 in my old store and recently installed in my new store. Thank you so much to Tolstoy's support team for transferring the perks over to my new store. With Tolstoy, I'm able to create interactive shoppable video widget at the bottom corner of my webpage for customers to have a closer look at each product. You can even include a few buttons with jump logic so you'll know what customers are looking for. I'm also able to embed videos on a specific page and hide widget on other pages. Tolstoy now has a new feature 'video feed' which enables you to make a page similar to an Instagram or TikTok feed, but with more interactive features. I'm excited to use it too. Their analytics page is also detailed but comprehensive so you'll know which is your best performing Tolstoy video series. My only regret was not to start using it earlier, but I'm grateful to be able to use this app for better retention and customer experience. Their support team are very friendly and effective, so you're in good hands. Once again, thank you Team Tolstoy for helping us online shop owners make better websites :)

Totally recommended! It is relatively easy to install and use the Go Tolstoy App. It took us less than 5 minutes to setup and launch the widget on our website ( check it out on www.myfooden.com ) . The 5 minutes exclude the work done on creating the videos! Upon setting its parameters (like which page to trigger on) we bumped a bit and had to contact support. They got back to us in under a day and the support quality is really high and really present. Kudos there! The response was precise, concise and on point. To be really fair and critical, we would have liked to see some customisation options in terms of popup size and page placement on mobile view. Nevertheless, think of GoTolstoy no less!

We are still very early with Tolstoy yet I am thoroughly impressed with the service and the quality of the app. I see this being one of the main tools in our arsenal when engaging with our fans and gathering data. It is super simple and when you consider you can use this on your Shopify store, in emails with GIF, and on outside landing pages to launch new products or contests... It is really unique and exciting.

I love this app. It looks really cool and professional on my site. The team was very helpful in helping me to get it set up. My only wish would be that it displayed a results page at the end rather than going to a link. But the way it is currently set up is not bad. Just my preference.

He succinctly, pleasantly, and patiently literally walked me through every step I needed to access my video from my phone, and make it visible where it needed to be on my shop. I have never be happier in making a review. Actually, by finding this app I have already been happier. Although we have not published yet in our store, we are working with it, and integrating 8 interactive video Introductions, Explanations and product reviews videos one with another. The app has a wonderful method to make a circular product interaction where the user can explore and go back and forth according to its interests. You can configure all your options, control the time for the interactions to show on screen, and it can even allow your users to send you feedback via text or video. Of course it could have more options, like momentary hot spots, buttons, full screens, etc, but that will be just the ideal and I am accustomed that nowadays it is too difficult to have your ideal "whatever", but I am sure that with time these features can come. All in all, the original idea for which the app was conceived could not be better. On top of the easy to use, problem solving, quality app, I have to congratulate the support team, who has been there almost instantaneously, with patience and knowledge to instruct us in how to do certain tricks, and even creating a complete support document to answer our most difficult question. What else can I say? On top of that, It is a free app. At least for now, although I hope that forever. I can only imagine that every store and every web site that works with video can take advantage of this app and its lovely team. I just hope never to be disappointed. The App is super useful. Not only has it improved my performance, but it also solved so many problems I was struggling with before. I used Tolstoy as an onboarding interactive video experience on my website. Kind of a more personalized way of a chatbot. Using my Tolstoy, leads and clients were able to navigate their way towards the content they were looking for at my website. I can definitely say that it has increased the number of qualified leads I get every month, and as a result, increased my overall sales. I say “qualified”, since by using their analytics I get a full report on each participant’s journey, so I know which options they made before leaving their details, and then when I get back to them I already know exactly what they’re looking for. But not only that, but Tolstoy also lowered the number of support tickets I received. This is also very valuable for me. Leads who struggle to find what they are looking for can get an immediate answer, without me having to get back to them a day later, which normally is too late. It took me a bit of time to understand its potential at the beginning. I must admit that since it’s free I assumed it probably doesn’t generate much value. However, I once contacted their support and they were super nice and wanted to get on a call right away to make sure I make the best possible use of it. So I’d highly recommend reaching out to them if you have any problems. Highly recommended!
